Always Surprise
for chorus (SATB) and piano by Wally Kleucker

This choral piece for SATB and piano set to a poem by Henry Berne.

Henry Berne

"There is always surprise in the beauty of the forest morning.

I am at home under the great trees.

I look down at the stream, as it curves,
unearthly snake, paints pictures of life, eternity, moves quietly.

Even crows, notorious for their dissatisfaction, are welcome this morn ing.

Each leaf, each tree, poplar and oak, white blazing sycamore,
recalls connection of earth and sky.

These are elements of healing, elements of prayer
in an urban oasis these are elements of song.

On the lake geese sail in quiet formation
like tall ships on parade"
